The Bahamas Institute for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (BICAMH), formally known as Centre for Psychological Services (CPS) was established in 2004 and incorporated as a multidisciplinary non-profit facility in 2014. The mission was to provide quality, comprehensive and affordable mental health and developmental services to improve the lives of all children (ages 0-18) and their families.
While children and adolescents remain our primary focus, we have expanded our services to promote adult mental health and well-being because adult well-being affects children and adolescent mental health. By providing services for adults, we are caring for children!
Research shows that most adult mental health issues have their origin in childhood or adolescence (between ages 12-14) that have not been adequately addressed. In other words, today’s parents, grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles and godparents are yesterday’s children and adolescents who also deserve to have their needs met.
At BICAMH, we provide tools for prevention and restoring, remediating and rehabilitating individual and family functioning. In sum, we focus on building hope for tomorrow!
